Club Captain’s Newsletter, July 2010
Hi Everyone,
Hope you’re all keeping warm over these winter months. Outdoor bowls seems a distant thought at the moment. However there are a few snippets of news I can pass onto you in the meantime.
Computer desk available: Recently Kay Hammond donated a kitset computer desk to the Club. Anyone interested in this desk can make an offer and all proceeds will go to Northern. The desk is at present in the Clubrooms awaiting an offer. Thank you Kaye for your generous thought.
Opening Day: Opening day this year is planned for 18 September. However, if the preceding Saturdays are fine the greens could be available for pre-season roll ups. Keep an eye on the noticeboards in the clubrooms for further information.
Mates in Bowls: Northern is once again running a Mates in Bowls tournament during November and December on Wednesday evenings. The 6-week programme is planned to begin on Wednesday November 3rd. We would like as many Northern members as possible to come along and support the Club to run these evenings.
The first meeting for a working group to organise and run Mates in Bowls will be on Wednesday 18 August at 5.30pm in our clubrooms. We want you on-board!
Indoor Bowls: Don’t forget that every Tuesday afternoon we have indoor bowls at the club. Noel Hannah reports that the numbers turning up have been very good and are increasing each week. Pop along on a Tuesday at 1pm and join in the fun.
Remember your Club is open most afternoons from 4pm onwards. Friday especially is a popular night for everyone.
The next committee Meeting for your Club is 23 August. Please contact me if you have any issues you want brought to the attention of the committee.

Well done to Anna and Sue W (Sub for Cinty) for winning the Ladies senior Champion of Champion pairs. They had a tough draw first beating Bulls then Johnston Park then Palmerston North to make it to the final played on Sunday. Ray L and Peter L made it the the Semi final stage.
Congratulations to both Anna and Sue W.
Paraparaumu Challenge
A bus full of happy bowlers left early on Sunday morning to try their luck against Paraparaumu in the annual challenge. It wasn't until the last game that the outcome was decided.... Northern won! Well done to all those who traveled and played. A great day, and I've heard a great evening was had once they returned to the club.

Results - Carpet Court
An other perfect day for bowling. Blue skies, not a cloud to be seen, great greens and great company. Everyone had fun and there were plenty of laughs on the green, even a few wrong biases. But over all everyone played well and enjoyed the last day of the Carpet Court 2x4x2.
Section A Winners - Ray N & Sue W
Section A Runners up - John P & Dave Cross
Section B Winners - Sue M & Dave Smith
Section B Runners up - Colin & Nita
Well done to everyone and thanks to Paul and Carpet Court for sponsoring the tournament.
