Our Mens Senior fours team also managed to make it to the final but missed out on the extra end. A great game to watch and for those of us watching we now have to grow our finger nails.. great try guys.

A fantastic day even if it did rain. A tremendous effort and congratulations to all those who won Centre titles.

These add to the tiles won earlier in the singles With Feona winning the Senior women, Harold winning the Intermediate Men and Keith Hughes the mens Colts.

A great season!

Northern News - 26 March 2008 - No 12 2007-08

As we get closer to the end of the season there are still many activities and tournaments to look forward to, and activities both on and off the greens to celebrate.

Hospice
Thanks to everyone who contributed time, goods, and enthusiasm towards another very successful Hospice Tournament and fundraising day. The final total of $5200 is very pleasing and Hospice is thrilled with our club efforts and generosity. Special thanks to Laurie Izod for coordinating this year’s event. This is a very time consuming undertaking, and we are grateful for Laurie’s enthusiasm, the excellent sponsored goods he organized and his team of helpers who ensured that the day’s activities ran smoothly and successfully. Thanks again everyone.

National Events
Our club will be well represented in the forthcoming National Men’s and Women’s Inter-Club and Inter-Centre finals which will be held at the Northern and Palmerston North clubs, and in the Community Trust finals to be held in Rotorua.

Interclub
Northern will have two teams competing in the NZ interclub finals –Men’s and Ladies Division 2. Congratulations to these finalists and all the very best to Terry, Grant, Tom Palmer, Keith, Doug, Jim and Wayne, and to Julianne, Sue Meyer, Sue Way, Christine, Lynlea, Sandra and Jacinta for these finals which will be held at Northern on Thursday and Friday April 10 and 11. Division 1 will be at Palmerston North. Let’s see plenty of home support for our players.

Inter centre
The Manawatu Men’s development team will be playing in the finals at Palmerston North Club on Sat and Sunday (April 12 and 13) and we wish Grant and Stephen all the best. Northern will be hosting teams in the senior inter-centre competition..

This is one of the highlights of our season, as we will have many of the top NZ bowlers and administrator’s here. During these busy four days we will require assistance from club members to ensure that everything is well prepared, organised and welcoming for our visitors. Please try to make yourself available to help if you are asked, or if you see a sign up sheet.

Community Trust Finals
Best wishes to Neil Gordon and Ray Lovie in the pairs; Viv Lozell, Nita Hannah, Noleen Elston and Elaine McQuarters in the fours, and Peter and Desiree Lambert in the Dorchester mixed pairs.

Carpet Court Pairs - Important Change of date
Due to the possibility of a large number of our players still being involved in Champion of Champion pairs, triples, and fours finals on March 30, the final Carpet Court day will now be held on April 27 which is the day after closing day. Following this day’s play there will be a meal and the presentation of trophies etc for the season. On the previous day (Sat April 26), we will run the G and G McKenzie pairs as the closing day tournament. This will begin at 10:00am. Sign up sheet will be posted on the notice board. If for some reason you are unable to play in the final Carpet Court round please advise Phil Skoglund ASAP.

There will be two other club tournaments before the end of the season. Carpet Court sponsored Open Triples to be held on Saturday April 19; and the Ladies only McKenzie Cup on Sunday 20 April. Sign up sheets for these will be posted.

Working Bees
Bevan Hyde has begun the Monday morning working bees again (9:30am start), and asks that you make yourself available if possible to assist with garden, grounds and clubroom tidying and maintenance. Many thanks to those who have been helping but there is always room for more.

Winter Bowls
There will be no winter bowls this year, but as we did this season there will be greens available pre season for roll ups and some organized activities.

Nomination forms for positions on the Board of Management are available on the notice board. See any Board member if you wish to discuss the various roles of the Management Committee members and where you may be able to help.
