Interclub
A fantastic effort from both the Mens and Ladies Division 1 Interclub Teams.
The men had it won without finishing the last round. By the time they won the singles and pairs it was time to head for the club house and celebrate a victory!
The Ladies had a lot harder time to win theirs, it went down to the last game. A very exciting affair for those watching. A good last day saw the team pull ahead of Terrace End and the others Clubs to win.
Division 2 Men and Ladies still have a few rounds to go so they will be on the greens on Saturday. The Ladies are in first place at the moment and the men are in second so it could be another exciting day to watch bowls and support the club.

Club Champ Fours
With the first rain, or light drizzle, that we have seen for weeks the day started with wet weather gear the norm. More rounds are to play so no results as yet. The next rounds will be played in January.

John Hayes has passed on a link to an interesting website so I am passing it on to you. Some light reading for the bowler... go here to read more

Interclub
This got off to a great start some results were a little better than others but a full effort was put in by all teams. We continue next week.

Centre Open Triples - Mens
The final was held at Terrace End and it was an all Northern affair. Ray L, Terry and Colin played Philip, Scruff and Skog(Substituted for Craig). Philips team got the better of Rays team early on and held the upper hand all the way. Great work and congratulations to Philip, Scruff and Skog.

Centre open Pairs - Ladies
The final was also an all Northern affair, between Feona & Julie (substituted for Sharon) and Carol & Cinty. A tight fought match but Feona  and Julie managed to stay ahead and win the match. Congratulations.

Centre Open Pairs - Mens
The final was held between Barry Wynks & Peter Wakildene and Scruff and Barry who won their semi final against Grant and Tony from Terrace End the game earlier.  Barry lead a fantastic game and gave plenty of options for Scruff. They had the upper hand most of the match. A fantastic team effort from you both. Congatulations to Scruff and Barry. It was and exceptional effort from scruff to win 2 Centre Titles in one day!

We wish Chris Julie and Lynlea, Philip, Scruff and Craig, Scruff and Barry, Feona and Sharon best for the Zone triples and pairs playoffs. Northern will be represented in both Mens and Ladies Triples and Mens and Ladies Pairs. A grand effort. We wait for the Centre open fours and Singles. Go Northern!

Club Captain’s Newsletter, July 2010

Hi Everyone,

Hope you’re all keeping warm over these winter months. Outdoor bowls seems a distant thought at the moment. However there are a few snippets of news I can pass onto you in the meantime.

Computer desk available: Recently Kay Hammond donated a kitset computer desk to the Club. Anyone interested in this desk can make an offer and all proceeds will go to Northern. The desk is at present in the Clubrooms awaiting an offer. Thank you Kaye for your generous thought.

Opening Day: Opening day this year is planned for 18 September. However, if the preceding Saturdays are fine the greens could be available for pre-season roll ups. Keep an eye on the noticeboards in the clubrooms for further information.

Mates in Bowls: Northern is once again running a Mates in Bowls tournament during November and December on Wednesday evenings. The 6-week programme is planned to begin on Wednesday November 3rd. We would like as many Northern members as possible to come along and support the Club to run these evenings.

The first meeting for a working group to organise and run Mates in Bowls will be on Wednesday 18 August at 5.30pm in our clubrooms. We want you on-board!

Indoor Bowls: Don’t forget that every Tuesday afternoon we have indoor bowls at the club. Noel Hannah reports that the numbers turning up have been very good and are increasing each week. Pop along on a Tuesday at 1pm and join in the fun.

Remember your Club is open most afternoons from 4pm onwards. Friday especially is a popular night for everyone.

The next committee Meeting for your Club is 23 August. Please contact me if you have any issues you want brought to the attention of the committee.
